Biography
Teuila Blakely is one of Aotearoa’s most recognisable and dynamic performers. Proudly of Samoan heritage, she has built a remarkable career spanning television, film, theatre, and live presenting. Known for her bold authenticity and magnetic screen presence, Teuila has become a beloved fixture in New Zealand’s entertainment landscape.
She rose to national prominence through her four-year role as Vasa Levi on Shortland Street, and has since starred in a range of iconic Kiwi productions including Outrageous Fortune, Westside, Filthy Rich, and The Brokenwood Mysteries. Her flair for comedy is showcased in cult favourites like Sione’s Wedding, its sequel Sione’s 2: Unfinished Business, and the hit animated series bro’Town.
Teuila’s talent has also reached global audiences. Her international work includes recurring roles on Power Rangers: Beast Morphers and Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop, along with a leading role in the Netflix film The Royal Treatment.
Outside of acting, Teuila’s creative journey has been just as vibrant. She co-founded the hip hop radio station Flava FM and co-hosted C4’s live music show Freestyle. As a writer and performer, her play Island Girls was widely praised, marking her as a rising voice in New Zealand theatre. Whether she’s on stage, screen, or hosting live events, Teuila brings a unique blend of humour, warmth, and confidence.
Passionate about women’s empowerment and Pacific representation, Teuila uses her platform to drive meaningful change. Her time on Dancing With The Stars led to ambassador work with Women’s Refuge, and she remains a powerful advocate for challenging stereotypes and encouraging others to stand in their truth.
