Biography

Josh is a household name and a legend on the New Zealand comedy scene. He has been a mainstay on local comedy shows like 7Days, Have You Been Paying Attention, was the regular comedian on The Project and was the champion of Season 3 of TaskMaster NZ – which he now directs. He also directed and starred in a web series about his own father Subject:Dad.

As an actor he’s appeared internationally in Prime’s The Office Australia, Netflix’s The New Legends Of Monkey, NBC’s Young Rock and local hits Good Grief, Creamerie, Wellington Paranormal, Educators, Time Bandits and the Emmy winning INSiDE. His feature film work includes the How to Please a Woman (Australia), Don’t Make Me Go (US), and local favourites Gary of the Pacific, Pork Pie, & Guns Akimbo.

Josh continues to work as a live performer, whether gigging on tour with 7DaysLive, appearing on the Comedy Gala, hosting the Great Comedy Debate or as an MC for corporate events. He’s hosted the NZ Film Awards, the 48Hour Film awards, various Vodafone events and several spots for the NZ Music awards.

Biography

Josh Thomson is a New Zealand actor and comedian of Tongan heritage known for The New Legends of Monkey (Netflix), Wellington Paranormal (HBO), the Emmy award winning Inside (Sky) and most recently The Office Australia (Amazon Prime).

Josh’s background in improv and stand up comedy have armed him with a toolbox of comedy skills ranging from wild explosive outbursts, to subtly crafted delivery and perfectly timed deadpan responses. His unique capabilities have landed him roles on Young Rock (NBC), Creamerie (Hulu), Good Grief (AMC), Educators (SBS), and How to Stay Married (Paramount+). He’s also stolen the scenes in features such as How to Please a Woman (Hulu/SkyUK), delivered devastating moments of tenderness in Don’t Make Me Go (Amazon Prime), and led the cast in Gary of the Pacific (AppleTV).

Hailing from the small South Island town of Timaru, he first broke onto the scene as a stand up comedian, with appearances on Pulp Comedy, Laughs Unleashed, and the NZ Comedy Gala. Josh would expand to behind the camera, writing and directing the mockumentary smash A Night at the Classic, and the award winning series about his father’s emails Subject: Dad.

He’s since become a household name and staple of New Zealand’s comedy panel shows, Have You Been Paying Attention, Patriot Brains (NZ & AU), the decade long running hit 7 Days, and is a regular host of The Project (NZ).
